Deputy Agron Shehaj has commented on the arrest of the former President of the Republic Ilir Meta. He said that Albania was and is one of the most corrupt countries in Europe.
Shehaj said that in a normal country, whoever is called by the Prosecutor's Office should go and give explanations.
"If even those who are abusing power today, starting with the Prime Minister, we could talk about closing the 35-year chapter of impunity", Shehaj told "News 24".
Deputy Shehaj also said that there is nothing to be surprised about the arrest of Meta, since anyone who has held a high position should be brought to justice, if the latter has suspicions of corruption or other violations.
"There are hundreds of Prime Ministers who have been investigated for corruption everywhere in the West. The danger we face in Albania is that it does not happen that only the opposition is hit and on the other hand, nothing happens to the majority", said Shehaj.
He also commented on the arrest of Jurgis Çyrjas, the former deputy of the SP, while saying that it is very significant.
"We have the approach of bringing a representative of the majority and one of the opposition to justice. In the case of Çyrbe's arrest, he was given time to surrender, he was arrested in a private environment, while on the other hand we have those images of the arrest of Ilir Meta", said Shehaj.
