David Zaikin, considered one of the mysterious Israeli lobbyists, with early connections to Donald Trump, has reacted harshly through social networks to an interview that Prime Minister Edi Rama gave to the Financial Times , where he attacks the citizen protests demanding his resignation, while stating that he is not the "Godfather."
Zaikin accuses Rama of having faced a large influx of drug money and deep-seated corruption problems during his years in power. Zaikin supports the protesters' main demand, that Albania needs new leadership and a transitional government.
"I agree with Edi Rama: the investments are good and the mafia has a new leader. But during his government, drug money has flooded the country and a handful of oligarchs have taken control of tourism, retail trade and the energy sector. Albania needs new leadership and a transitional government ," writes Zaikin.
I agree with @ediramaal : investment is good and the mafia has a different leader. But on his watch drug money has flooded in and a few oligarchs have captured tourism, retail and energy. Albania needs new leadership and a caretaker government. https://t.co/dxwgqqVWgO

Edi Rama has been facing a wave of protests for 24 days demanding his resignation, while it seems that the civil revolt is developing against the entire political class in the country. The most frequent cries of the protests are "Rama, resign" and "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison". In his reactions, the Prime Minister has chosen to lynch the protesters, not sparing to identify some by name, and even accusing them of links to Iran. Rama has held back from the beginning the idea that the protests against him are being exploited by anti-Albanian circles, pointing the finger at Tehran, a country that Albania classifies on the list of "enemies" due to the cyber attacks that, according to the Albanian government, it has undertaken.
Zaikin often appears as an analyst, mainly in Israeli media, where he analyzes war situations, especially those in the Middle East, but also in Ukraine. He is known for his connections not only with Trump, but also with Clinton, thus wearing the guise of a "mysterious lobbyist".
A few years ago, his name caught the attention of the Brussels-based newspaper Politico , which considered him a mysterious figure, with no apparent ties to Turkey, but with long-standing partnerships with powerful Russian businessmen and government officials, mainly involving energy and mining deals. According to the Brussels media, Zaikin has lobbied for parties in several Eastern European countries, advising parties in both Albania and North Macedonia.
“ Zaikin also has business ties to Trump. Working at a real estate agency in Toronto in the 2000s, Zaikin brokered sales of one of the city’s new high-rise buildings: the Trump International Hotel and Tower. Perhaps coincidentally, Zaikin was also close to a Russian woman who was the exclusive agent for one of Trump’s developments in Florida and who was labeled “Trump’s Russian hand” by a Russian magazine ,” the article published some time ago by Politico states.
