The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has commented on the recent debates that have accompanied the proposed investment projects for the island of Sazan and the Zvërnec area.
In his statement, Berisha rejected criticism of the project, calling the critics a group of hypocrites.
"Those who cry the elegy of Sazan are a group of hypocrites. They can shed as many tears as they want, because I was directly taken, and Fatos Nano was also taken. We have offered it to investors and it is not a simple investment," said the leader of the Democrats.
Berisha argued that the idea of attracting investors to Sazan is not new and that efforts in this direction have been made for years by various political leaders. According to him, the planned projects have a strategic character and cannot be considered ordinary investments.
Speaking about concerns related to the impact on the environment, he stressed that the development of the projects will not damage the natural values of the area. The DP leader also distinguished between the status of Sazan and Zvërnec, highlighting the specific characteristics of each area.
According to Berisha, the most special value of Sazan is not related to the coastline or the marine space, but to the rare vegetation that has developed in special natural conditions and that, according to him, will remain protected.
He added that the situation in Zvërnec is different, as it is an area with private property and a tradition of intergenerational residence.
At the end of the statement, Berisha reiterated that the Democratic Party supports foreign investments, but by setting as a condition the respect of environmental standards.
"We supported foreign investment, but we are a party that stands fully for respecting the environment," Berisha concluded.
