With 84 votes in favor, Niko Peleshi is elected the new Speaker of the Parliament

Niko Peleshi is elected the new Speaker of the Albanian Parliament with 84 votes.

SP MP Niko Peleshi has been elected the new Speaker of the Albanian Parliament with 84 votes in favor, 3 against and 0 abstentions. 

87 deputies participated in the vote.

The opposition did not participate in this process, but remained inside the session, silently following the voting from their seats.

Opposition MPs fell to the floor when Niko Pelesh's name was mentioned, while the majority applauded the new Speaker of the Assembly.

The temporary commission set up to administer the votes for the election of the new speaker of parliament consisted of Fadil Nasufi, Saimir Asalla and Bledi Çomo, proposed only by the SP after the DP refused to participate in the process.

Meanwhile, before the election of the new Speaker of the Assembly, the new deputies were also sworn in. Out of 140, 135 were sworn in.
