The 138 newly sworn-in MPs are voting by secret ballot to elect the new Speaker of the Assembly. The Socialist Party, which won the parliamentary elections on May 11, proposed the name of Niko Pelesh, who is expected to be elected with the votes of the socialist majority.

The opposition, on the other hand, did not participate in the vote, claiming that this majority is not legitimate.

"This majority has no legitimacy to elect the President. We do not participate in this process at all," said Gazment Bardhi.

Fadil Nasul, Bledi Çomo, Saimir Hasalla will be the members of the commission that will elect the Speaker of the Assembly.
