Ilir Meta continues to remain in prison. The trial of the former President of the Republic, leader of the Freedom Party, was postponed on Friday, after his defense emphasized that the request could not be reviewed by a willing judge, but by the preliminary investigation judge.
The judge who was ready to give the decision in the Special Court against Corruption of High Officials was Erjon Bani. He himself declared his incompetence to decide on the replacement of the security measure of "prison arrest" for Ilir Meta, with a milder security measure.
On the other hand, lawyer Kujtim Cakrani explained to the media that the judge who should give the decision is Erjon Çela.
"It seems that even in the knowledge of these circumstances, the president of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta himself, was not present at the session. While SPAK was represented by prosecutor Alfred Shehu, who is also available during this period, given that the prosecutors of the case, Altin Dumani, Arben Kraja and Sotir Kllapi, were not present."
The investigations into the former Prime Minister, former Speaker of the Parliament and former President of the Republic ended on August 4 by SPAK. Ilir Meta has been in prison since October last year and is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets, for two files, the one of the LSI lobbying in the US and the CEZ-DIA file. On August 6, Meta submitted a request for a change of measure, giving his word that he will not escape if he is released from prison, as his passport may also be blocked. Alongside him, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, her mother Fatimja, as well as two associates Ema Çoku and Pirro Xhixho are under indictment , the lawyer said./ A2CNN
