"Our hospitality was proven when we sheltered the Jews", Rama at the

Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his speech at the opening ceremony of the International Tourism Fair (ITB), where Albania has been chosen as the country of honor for 2025, spoke about Albanian hospitality.

Rama said that Albanian hospitality was proven when we sheltered Jews during World War II, while also noting religious harmony.

Have you ever heard of a law in the country that declares our homes belong to the lord and the friend. While such a law was written in medieval Albania, it has become an integral part of Albanian life, the essence of what we call reception, which in English sounds like a harmonious fusion of Albania and hospitality, but in Albanian it means doing the impossible to honor the name, the home and the friend. The peak of Albanian hospitality was witnessed during World War II, when Albania protected the Jews, becoming the only country in Europe that had more Jews after the war than before it.

We have been and still are a country of Muslims, Christians, Orthodox, and when faced with the choice between Jews and the devil, our ancestors stood by the Jews, refusing to surrender even a single breath to the Nazis. Whoever knocks on the door of an Albanian's house does so by the will of God, and by opening the doors we welcome a friend who is treated like a god. If you want to feel what it is like to be like a god, come to Albania. If you want to meet taxi drivers who behave like gods, go to Greece ," Rama said, among other things.
