The mystery of the protest leader: who could be behind it?
Scene from the Protest /

The public demand for his return to the head of SPAK has sparked speculation that a new political phase is being prepared after the protests, with a figure who enjoys public capital and international support...

The debate that began in the early days of the mass protests against Edi Rama to find their political leader has now taken the form of a mysterious legend.

Apart from a few lists that appear here and there to blow the whistle on the public, many people understand that we are dealing with a trail that no one has caught so far. Or maybe they are pretending not to have caught it.

Edi Rama deals directly with the controversy over those he calls "scumbags", but almost every day he mentions Germany as the pivot of this movement, where the 'flamingo' is only a propaganda symbol.

Because, according to this logic, all of this is a precisely constructed movement, not simply to remove Edi Rama from power, but to finally remove him from politics.

Even a stronger move is not ruled out, which Rama himself seems to have had in mind since he saw the precedent of Hashim Thaçi.

However, even though the enigma has become an urban legend filled with conspiracy theories, Saturday's protest brought up an interesting detail.

One of the speakers who took the megaphone issued a direct request:

Altin Dumani should return to head SPAK for a second three-year term.

A statement that was perhaps the most important of all those heard during the two weeks of protest.

Because the speeches given there do not seem spontaneous at all.

They are carefully curated, organized, and built by specific groups of communication experts and organizations that are funded by European foundations and programs.

The statement on Duman's return to the head of SPAK has long been an articulated position in various international circles.

But it was opposed by Edi Rama, who after the end of Duman's mandate declared with a kind of irony that SPAK has an institutional term until the end of 2028.

It is precisely here, according to many observers, that the real clash between Rama and the international factors that support SPAK's continuation of its course has begun.

The cold meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Tivat seemed to confirm this distance.

"We met after the summit. He left for Berlin, I for Tirana," Rama declared. An elegant way to hide the fact that there is an ever-widening political gap between the parties.

Meanwhile, the situation is getting increasingly out of control.

Every day, supporters leave, alliances fade, and the mechanisms he could use to organize a counterattack weaken.

In this context, attention has been focused on SPAK.

Since the protests began, the institution has taken several investigative and procedural actions that are being interpreted as clear signals that the political climate is changing.

From the files related to Zvërnec to other financial investigations and asset freezes, many are reading a political message there.

All of these elements have fueled the theory that the organizers and major supporters of the protest may have a card reserved for the next phase.

And the name that is mentioned most often is that of Altin Dumani.

A hypothesis that gains ground especially if the request to continue his mandate is rejected.

In that case, according to this theory, Dumani could become the political figure who will take over the moral capital created by SPAK over the past few years.

A scheme that many compare to the case of Laura Kövesi in Romania.

After her departure from the leadership of the anti-corruption structure, she became a European symbol of the fight against corruption and later took over the leadership of the European Public Prosecutor's Office.

If a similar scenario were to occur in Albania, and Altin Dumani were to enter politics, it is likely that he would immediately benefit from the reputation created by SPAK.

But it seems we're not at that point yet.

The announcement of the true leader of this movement, if there is one, is likely to come at an even more critical moment.

When the political effect is maximum.

Because, after all, it seems that the big spectacle has not yet begun./ Pamphlet
