One of the close associates of the historical leader of the Socialist Party, former deputy leader of the Socialist Party, Servet Pëllumbi, through a message of condolence addressed to the family of Fatos Nano, praised Nano as the first leader of the Socialist Party and one of the central political figures of the Albanian political transition.
"I learned with sadness about the untimely death of Fatos Nano, the first chairman of the Socialist Party and one of the central political figures of the Albanian political transition. Condolences to the family! May he be unforgettable!", says the message of Pëllumbi, otherwise known as the "professor of the socialists".
The democratic changes in 1990 positioned Servet Pëllumbi as vice-president of the Socialist Party, a position he held until 1996. Servet Pëllumbi led the Socialists' campaign to oppose the referendum on the Constitution and then the campaign for the release of Fatos Nano from prison.
He is known as one of the longest-serving members of the Albanian Parliament, with active participation in various parliamentary committees.
