"The match in the 90th minute", Balla on the election of the

One of the hot issues in parliament remains the election of the Ombudsman. According to the chairman of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, Taulant Balla, who drew a parallel with the football match, the procedure for electing the new head of this institution has gone until the 90th minute, but there are no extra minutes. This is because the procedure must be implemented and from this moment on, only the Assembly will express itself by vote.

" In the Laws Committee, it was said that the procedure of the law will be applied. The law is the choice that exceeds the agreement in the sense that naturally you can make an agreement, but the law is the procedure. The procedure has progressed until the 90th minute. Today as we speak, we are in the 90th minute of a football match. There is no extra time. The reason is very simple. From this moment on, only the Assembly, the session, can express itself by vote. The only one that decides from today is the session ," Balla said in "Opinion".

He accused the Democratic Party, emphasizing that they are trying not to elect the new Ombudsman, but want to leave the current chairwoman, Erinda Ballanca, in office. He denied that Democratic Party firms have withdrawn from candidacies.

" The law is very strict. The phases have been burned. The firms cannot be withdrawn today. If they were to withdraw, they could have withdrawn yesterday ," he said.

According to Balla, the Socialist Party is interested in having a new People's Advocate and this should be done in respect of parliamentary tradition, so the name should come from the opposition. This is the reason, according to him, why the Socialist Party has not proposed a candidacy. Regarding the names that have been proposed, he said that the majority will decide who it will support on December 9, while the vote is scheduled for the plenary session on December 11.

" On the first day of the start of this process, I asked the parliamentary group that no SP MP support any candidate with a signature because it is not up to us to support a candidate with a signature and we believe that it should come from the opposition in respect not of the norm of the law, but of the norm of parliamentary tradition. I have been ready for three years or so to make an agreement on this, perhaps similar to the one of May 17, and there has been no readiness for this. I have said in the group that this process should be closed without anyone's signature. After we see who are those who have come as opposition proposals, with signatures from opposition MPs since none of the opposition parties has the exclusivity of the opposition. On Tuesday, we will reconvene the parliamentary group to discuss one of the candidacies. On Tuesday, on the 9th, because the vote is scheduled to be on the 11th ," said Balla.

He emphasized that there are other political forces in the opposition in the Assembly besides the Democratic Party that will not boycott the process. We recall that 84 votes are needed for his election. The majority has 83.

" I believe that the assembly has other political forces that will not boycott the process ," said Balla.

The head of the parliamentary group expressed the opinion that the new Ombudsman should not be a personality in the field of law who is connected at a certain moment to the Socialist Party.

" I did not choose these candidates. I am forced to choose one of these seven. It is not my choice, but I cannot hold the institution hostage ," he said.

Balla denied in "Opinion" that anyone within the Socialist Party had publicly declared that they would support Endri Shabani.

" I know that yesterday I publicly declared at the conclusion of the candidacy filing process that the Socialist Party will not support its own candidate with signatures, which is the procedure required by law ," he said.
