The democratic MPs Jorida Tabaku and Gazment Bardhi have filed a legal initiative in the Parliament, which according to them aims to protect free professionals and the middle class.
The legal initiative is filed in the Assembly, two months after the Constitutional Court overturned the Tax on Free Professions as an unconstitutional and unfair taxation, but thousands of taxpayers complain that before this decision they were forced by the government to pay this tax.
Through this legal initiative, MPs Tabaku and Bardhi aim to refund the taxes unjustly paid by freelancers.
"This is the legal proposal that, together with Mr. Bardhi, we are submitting for the reimbursement of every penny paid by the freelancers", stated Tabaku in the video posted on her social networks.
She emphasized that, while the decision was being considered, the government continued to demand these taxes from small businesses and freelancers, showing an unfair attitude towards the middle class.
Tabaku severely criticized the government for its inaction after the decision of the Constitutional Court.
"If a citizen or business was a debtor to the government, it would use all the power of the state to collect the debt. Today, when it is the government's turn to return the money to the citizens, it hesitates," she said.
Meanwhile, Gazmend Bardhi, in support of this proposal, emphasized the importance of the protection of free professionals and the middle class as the main pillar of the Albanian economy.
"We are determined to stand by their side and ensure that justice is done," declared Bardhi.
It is expected that the legal proposal will be discussed in the Assembly, where the DP will seek the support of all deputies for its approval.
