The Mayor of Lezha, Pjerin Ndreu, has given his perspective on the wave of demolitions of illegal buildings in Theth, the tourist season in the city he governs, the dismissals of deputy mayors, directors and heads of administrative units in the country's municipalities, as well as the historic result that the Socialist Party obtained in the May 11 elections.
Ndreu emphasized his agreement with the action to free up public spaces, publicly indicating that the first subject to be affected was his brother, who owned a bar on "Zogu i Parë" Boulevard in Tirana.
" There have always been such interventions. The government is not the one that takes care of public spaces, it is the local government, the municipalities have a duty to do so. Lezha was mentioned and I think that Lezha also has problems. The first bar that was demolished on Zogu i Parë Boulevard is my brother's bar, here in Tirana. It has been paying taxes for several years, but ultimately there is a philosophy, a way of treating public spaces. There is a clause for provisional permits that must be renewed once a year. Most of them have not come to renew them. The municipality cannot issue permanent permits in public spaces. Easy permits with renewal ," Ndreu said on "Report TV".
The demolition of illegal constructions in the tourist village of Theth, for Ndreu, is a justified decision by the government, but he thinks that the most appropriate time to carry it out would be after the tourist season.
" I have a conflict of interest because Thethi is my favorite mountain spot in Europe. Thethi is something I adore for me. I have been a frequenter of Thethi with my family for years and the residents of Thethi are the best I have ever seen. Most of those who have now entered Thethi are not residents of Thethi. There are many others who have no connection to the old houses of Thethi. I am afraid that people have benefited illegally. The Prime Minister has said that he will give the land titles to all those who have seen the guesthouses, they have a house. I had a year before entering Theth, it was a completely different thing. I was surprised by a very large construction boom. I think that the institutions that were tasked with that work have had the responsibility. If I go and build there and no one tells me anything, I can build, " said Ndreu.
The number one of the government "shaken up" the local government from Vlora, where he started with the dismissal of 27 directors of the Municipality, and then, with the same momentum, he demanded from other municipalities in the country the "cleansing" of the management structure, including the deputy mayors and heads of administrative units. The mayor of Lezha said that this "reform" of Rama is not an intervention in local government, but is aimed at improving local governance.
" Rama leaves you all the necessary space to exercise your competence. No one, not even a mayor, tells you why you took this job or why you took this because he is right-wing or... For the sake of this behavior, he demands the bill, because the bill is the job. He wants you to come out as the lord of the territory. In Lezha, we are evaluating, we are doing the evaluation once. I have just replaced 2 deputy mayors. One has been there for 3 months, the other for 6-7 months. They have just been replaced. Most administrators have been changed within a year ," he added.
The head of local government in Lezha said that the prime minister only wants to "remove the headache" of governing municipalities, and as for how to achieve this, he does not place any restrictions on mayors, it is enough that the work is done well.
