Socialist Party MP Etjen Xhafaj has reacted by coming out in support of Mayor Veliaj. He becomes the first MP to react officially and directly on this issue, following the position taken by the party leader Edi Rama this morning.
He has supported justice reform, but says that someone who has changed the face of the country for the better cannot be treated as a criminal who needs to be arrested.

The attacks of these days are an example that the justice reform is having its effect at every level, and we are all with it. There would be no schoolboys like me in politics without these. But justice and procedure and institutional steps to reach a legal conclusion.
Banning someone, regardless of political affiliation, is not this. So today, we must ask whether we want this reform that we wanted so much, for statistical purposes, or to do its job, which presupposes that every institution plays its role, not just SPAK.
We unconditionally support the special prosecutor's office, but also the court for the decisions it makes. Someone who has changed the face of the country for the better cannot be treated as a criminal who will be detained.
This is my opinion and you are welcome to attack it, but you and I, and you know how much this country has changed with Erion. And this cannot be denied! The others must be proven, this is before our eyes every day.
