The lack of the seal of the entity they ran for on May 11 was the argument that KAS used to reject the requests submitted by the 4 candidates of the 'PD-ASHM' coalition for the counting of preferential votes in the Tirana and Durrës Regions.
Aulon Kalaja, Ilir Alimehmeti, Lisandër Hoxha and Mimoza Hajdarmataj requested a recount of preferential votes, claiming that there were irregularities that affected their ranking on the open lists of the 'PD-ASHM' party.
But the request submitted by the 4 candidates did not bear the stamp of the entity they represented, more specifically the Democratic Party. And this was the argument for the 4 members of the KAS, two from the SP and two from the DP, specifically Elvin Lako, Koli Bele, Elvis Çefa and Ledio Braho, to unite their votes and reject the requests of the 4 candidates. Meanwhile, the only one who spoke in favor of the recount was Ilir Rusmali.
Of the candidates who submitted requests for recount, Ilir Alimehmeti in Tirana and Aulon Kalaja in Durrës could be the only ones who could risk changes in the lists of candidates for MP. Alimehmeti in Tirana could risk the second mandate of the 'Mundësia' party, but also an overturn of the list of candidates of the 'PD-ASHM' coalition, while Kalaja in Durrës could risk Arjan Ndoj's seat.
After the KAS decision, it remains to be seen whether the entities they support, in this case the DP, will address this institution to request a recount of votes or not. If they do not address it, then most likely even Sali Berisha's DP itself is not interested in entering a path that could shed light on what happened with the preferential votes. And the argument for not requesting a recount can be justified by the fact that the DP does not recognize the election result, or as Berisha calls it, an 'electoral farce'. But on the other hand, this could lead to a 'division' between the political force and the names that competed for it, who today are unable to re-check their votes.
