"The US Embassy staff said goodbye this week to Deputy Chief of Mission/Charge-in-Charge Demian Smith after two years of service in Albania.
The Embassy team came together to wish Demian and his family the best as he returns to Washington DC for his next assignment.
Employees thanked Demian for his leadership, strong advocacy, and the compassion he showed to everyone at the US Embassy in Tirana.

Meanwhile, David Kostelančik will be the new American ambassador to Albania.
After receiving consent from the Albanian government, he has been nominated by President Joe Biden to serve in our country. The hearing and approval in the American Senate of this candidacy for ambassador to Albania is now expected.
David Kostelančik is a diplomat with a long career in DASH. He currently works as an adviser at the headquarters of the US Army at the Pentagon.
