DP asks KAS to open the ballot boxes for Vlora, Bele: We can't do it in

The Democratic Party has requested that the KAS reopen the ballot boxes in the Vlora region for the May 11 elections. The Democrats, through Franc Nuri, claim that there are irregularities with the ballots, while they are requesting that the result be declared invalid and the elections be repeated. This is a standard request that the DP presents for all regions, while it is not known whether the two KAS members, Ledio Braho and Ervis Çefa, will request the opening of the boxes, as they did in the case of Tirana and Fier.

During the review of the request, the rapporteur of the KAS, Koli Bele, stated that for Vlora, evidence was made by opening several boxes and no irregularities were found, as all unused ballot papers were found. He added that boxes cannot be opened in vain without any basic and concrete evidence, because otherwise everyone would go through a pointless procedure.

"Even so, opening the boxes in vain is not going to work. Let's just sit here with this thing for the rest of our lives, and let's go until the end of July with the issue. We saw the Vlora boxes that we opened earlier and no irregularities were found," said Bele.

But Nuri said that there are claims from the DP that there are ballot papers missing from the ballot box.

"It must be found if there are 5 unused ballots missing or the different numbers from the minutes in the box, why those ballots are missing and where they are, or how they were found in the box. More ballots came out in one box than used ones," said Nuri.

SP representative Elena Xhina called the DP's request meaningless and a senseless procedural delay.

"This process no longer makes sense to drag on like this without major objectives. This seems like a big rolling stone and it is not known what will take it forward. This process does not work without a major objective and evidence. For me, it is pointless to continue like this, it makes no sense," she said.

The CEC administration underlined that the DP's claim did not hold true for Vlora, the boxes had been opened, verified during the process and no problems were found. They added that the subject was confusing the object of discussion with several other boxes that were not from Vlora.

The KAS then gave the CEC time to provide an official response on whether the DP's claim of a lack of ballots in the ballot box or their discrepancy in numbers, compared to the minutes and those found inside the box, was valid.
