President Bajram Begaj met with his counterpart from North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, during an official visit to the RMV. The focus of the conversation was on bilateral relations, economic cooperation and the European integration process.
During the joint statement, Begaj praised the relations between the two countries and stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation.
"Honorable President, ladies and gentlemen. It is always a pleasure to meet you, thank you for the invitation and the warm conversation we had together. During the conversation, we appreciated the good relations we have as countries and the joint efforts for development. Albania and the Republic of Macedonia are determined to deepen cooperation. We also spoke about the agreements signed between our governments. This cooperation has directly impacted the lives of our citizens. For us, the Republic of Macedonia is considered an important economic partner, with increased trade flows. But there is always room for more. Through the implementation of previously signed projects, we have achieved concrete results such as the recognition of diplomas, easier customs clearance and greater economic cooperation. We must further deepen political and economic cooperation. Corridor VIII is a symbol of joint cooperation. It is a corridor of European security", said Begaj.
The Albanian President also focused on the position of Albanians in North Macedonia, emphasizing the importance of the full implementation of the Ohrid Agreement.
"The Albanians here are state-builders, they are constructive and democratic. Albanians have been and remain key in the process of your country's integration into the EU. Albania considers the Ohrid Framework Agreement as a historic achievement. We appreciate the will to have a multi-ethnic society in the RMV. We believe that preserving the element of equality is extremely important for the European future. All citizens should be treated as equals, regardless of their ethnicity, faith or political beliefs. We want to join the EU by 2030. Albania supports the European integration of North Macedonia. Cooperation between Albania and North Macedonia is very important in a number of areas," Begaj declared.
At the end of his speech, President Begaj extended an official invitation to his Macedonian counterpart to pay a visit to Tirana.
