DP and SP clash in Lezha Council, opposition accuses majority: Elderly people

The Municipal Council meeting in Lezha, where the decision to increase salaries was voted on, was accompanied by strong discussions between the parties, while the focus of the debate was on employment issues in the local administration.

Democratic Party representative, Donika Ndoj, raised allegations that there are employees in the municipality who have reached retirement age and continue to be on duty, as well as people who, according to her, are paid without showing up for work.

"In the administration, there are employees who have reached retirement age and are kept on the job, or fictitious employees who receive salaries but do not perform services," said Donika Ndoj.

The mayor of Lezha, Pjerin Ndreu, responded to these statements, admitting that in some cases the retirement age for certain employees has been postponed due to the lack of replacement specialists. However, he categorically denied the claims of fictitious salaries.

"There are employees who have reached the age limit and we have kept them, for example we have kept masons because they do not come to us or we have not found specialists. But there is no way to pay employees and have them stay at home. There is zero tolerance for anyone who thinks of taking their salary for nothing. I do not know where you draw these conclusions from," said Ndreu.

Meanwhile, the decision to increase salaries, which comes as part of the indexation approved by the government, mainly affects employees with minimum wage. According to the relevant categories, the increase ranges from 10 to 15 thousand new lek.
