The opposition has announced the holding of a national protest tomorrow in front of the Albanian Parliament, which will start in the early hours of the morning, while MPs will gather in plenary session.
Invited to the show "Të Pashoq" on the "Pamfleti" YouTube channel, Democratic Party MP Saimir Korreshi said that the protest is inevitable due to what he calls an "unprecedented act" that is expected to occur in Parliament. Korreshi stated that the majority will protect Minister Balluku by not removing her immunity and thus blocking the request for justice. "
Unlike past protests that were held in the afternoon, this time the opposition has chosen a strategic time. According to MP Korreshi, the protest is planned to coincide with the moment of voting in the session, which is expected to take place around 10:00.
" Since the vote is at 10:00, then people should be there to watch and protest at that time, " he explained.
Asked about the acts of violence in the recent protests, such as the burning of a building symbolic of the former regime, Korreshi did not describe the protest as violent. He argued that the acts were symbolic and not foreseen in the script. According to him, the protesters' reaction came as a result of frustration with a system that, according to the opposition, has captured all institutions and is undermining justice, protecting individuals accused of corruption.
Excerpt from the interview:
-Today you have certainly held your meetings at the blue headquarters to coordinate on the possible scenario of tomorrow's protest. What will happen?
Saimir Korreshi : First of all, there will be protests. You know, I think that tomorrow is the day when there should be more protests than that, or that is exactly the cause for protesting. Why? Because it is an unprecedented act that is happening in the Albanian Parliament, in the case it will most likely be realized, this will be. We have seen it from the positions, and from the report submitted by the majority in parliament, it is now official, that they will defend her, they will not lift her immunity, so they will not accept the prosecutor's request to lift Mrs. Balluku's immunity. So you have to steal with a shovel in this place and still defend yourself. We have and will come with laws, if they crossed this river, it is up to them to come with laws so that we all steal, whoever steals the most is not punished, those who are on bicycles or those who are without a license, on motorcycles, without a helmet, they will stay in prison, so we will look at them with these categories, so that the galloping theft will be replaced with those who are, uh, ordinary thieves or with those poor troublemakers who commit any criminal offense, not even in the context of crimes.
-Now, how is tomorrow's protest different, besides the schedule, because it was held in the afternoon?
Saimir Korreshi : The peculiarity of the schedule, absolutely, the peculiarity of the schedule is precisely because, uh, they have more or less parliament that they run, because now the legislative, executive is one. Even with the president, the judiciary is partially saved, but the rest is already merged into the same hands, they have announced that the vote will be at 10:00. So the report of both parties will be read, if comrade Balluku decides to speak or not, it is her procedural right that is given in parliament and it will be passed directly to the vote after this point, so it will not be the standard that all processes are done, there are speeches and in the end it is voted on with all the other requests, because the agenda also includes other points that are much more insignificant or almost non-existent and everyone is focused on this point. So, since the vote is at 10:00, with half an hour to read the reports, the vote will be held directly, then people should be there to watch and protest at that time when the vote will be held and not to revoke or not to grant permission to the prosecution to arrest Balluk.
-Why are you doing them, you've been doing violent protests for a while now? Why did you choose this scenario?
Saimir Korreshi : I would say that I wouldn't call it violent, because...
-Now violent, when they burn, a building burns, as it were, what does its symbolism matter, but burning, garbage bins on the street...
Me fjalë, me retorikë, me...
Saimir Korreshi : Yes, we had put quite a lot of police there, to be honest, because they expected something like that. But Berisha had declared that if the Democratic Party was going to be attacked again, because if we remember the recent protests, tear gas was thrown there like at the DP headquarters, not a few times, but several times, it was also thrown at the mosque. Since we did not repeat it or did not, we did not try to do something near the mosque, just because we are in the holy month of Ramadan and for this reason, in order not to give them the opportunity that they did not throw it, but they threw it. We do not want believers to be worried because faith, free faith, but despite the protest, every person, every other citizen can, should and can enjoy their freedom in peace, as an action regardless of the protest I believe affects every Albanian, believer or not, but they are all taxpayers in the end, we are all Albanians. And when the state budget is, I don't know, that it's stolen as a term, I don't know, that I'm also saying words, everything that it has has been stolen, thank goodness this is not a puzzle, this state that you can take and even the lands that are being given to every oligarch and take them and move them somewhere else. I think that this is a reason, even for those who are believers, even because it's the holy month of Ramadan, to demand one thing. Should we demand justice or do we demand to create some standards? I say that we definitely have to react to the injustice that is being done when they are dissolving the judiciary and they are giving the parliament's card, that they have stolen the parliament, for it, that's why, why this theft of the parliament happened and that's why, why did it serve the purpose at all. So, we cannot, we can allow one, even of every citizen because it is not a word that wants, will be stolen for you, for Saimir. No, it's just normal that a person will continue to steal, to continue to put pressure on, to continue to run the ministry the way he is running it...
