The Together Movement has held a protest in front of the Parliament building, demanding the lifting of the immunity of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. The rally was organized under the motto "The bigger the scandal, the greater the protection", and was attended by several dozen citizens, some of whom held banners against the government.
From the protest, Lëvizja Bashke MP, Redi Muçi, stated to "Report TV" that Prime Minister Rama is giving political protection to Balluku, sending a message to his officials that he will support them even if they face corruption charges.
"We have organized several protests to exert positive pressure on legislators regarding the issue of Balluk's mandate. Now, as representatives of the ruling party have expressed, it seems as if they will defend him and are not willing to lift his immunity," said Muçi.
According to him, the Prime Minister's stance on this issue constitutes a clash between the executive branch and the justice system, emphasizing that this, according to him, undermines justice reform.
"The fact that Rama refuses to lift Balluk's immunity speaks volumes. This is a clash between the Executive and Judicial branches of power and a message to his own people that he will protect them from justice," declared the Joint Movement MP.
Meanwhile, the issue is expected to be discussed in the Assembly. Tomorrow, MPs will vote on Belinda Balluku's immunity. Two reports have been filed in the Parliament, one from the Socialist Party and one from the Democratic Party, which will be reviewed.
The Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) has requested the arrest of the Deputy Prime Minister, accusing her of corruption and "violation of equality in tenders."
