The last week of January seems to mark the start of an opposition campaign to oust Edi Rama as Prime Minister. A roundtable with civil society actors, allies and leaders of organizations, with the aim of creating an opposition front, has concluded with the development of sustainable protests, not the format of the protests held so far, with a limited duration.
The scenario that will be applied seems to be that of sustained and continuous protests.
This was stated by the Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha, who said that it will be the DP Presidency that will determine not only the date when the opposition action will begin, but also the form that will be applied.
However, Berisha claimed that tents will also be erected, which means that the Democrats led by him are preparing for long-term protests, until the government is overthrown.
"Protests are certain to start. Continuous protests mean that the square will be filled every day. It will be determined what form it will take. Tents will be erected, they will be erected. There will be all forms," said Berisha.
It is not known whether the tents that Berisha announced will be erected will be similar to those applied by Lulzim Basha in 2017, but what is being warned is that a clash could arise between the opposition led by the DP and the Government.
Even for the democratic leader, the relationship that the Democrats will have with the Parliament no longer matters. Although there is no chance of repeating the scenario of burning mandates, which resulted in a move that "scorched" Lulzim Basha's DP, today Berisha's Democrats are analyzing other scenarios, including a hunger strike by MPs.
Despite being a scenario that Edi Rama applied when he was in opposition, after the 2009 elections with the motto "open the boxes or leave", it seems that it is an option that will be applied, no longer on the boulevard, but in the premises of the Parliament. Such a hunger strike was applied by Pjetër Arbnori in 1997-1998, which ended with the approval of several amendments that were proposed at that time by the Democratic MP regarding VAT.
"The Parliament has been annihilated. When the Parliament does not meet to lift immunity and violates the Constitution, violates everything, Edi Rama has annexed the parliament, has annihilated the parliament.
"Our going or not going is completely irrelevant. Parliament is no longer a fundamental institution of democracy, it is a tool in the hands of Edi Rama. This is now a fact," Berisha said.
