The Socialist Party does not accept the Democratic Party's request that Albanians without Albanian documents also vote in the May 11 elections.
Damian Gjiknuri, in an interview with A2 CNN, sees this condition of the Democrats as an alibi for defeat, while asking them to reflect on voting for the agreed-upon code changes.
"This issue has been addressed for a year now. We have agreed that citizens should vote with one of the documents recognized by the Albanian state and this has been accepted by all parties. Even when we were in talks at the CEC, the same approach was followed, and it was never even raised as a problem. We even said to each other that this is absurd... If a person has no data, you have nothing to compare him to... It is also a principle, a person who has no connection to this state, has not come once to get an identification document, I do not know what kind of voter this is.
"An Albanian citizen living in Albania cannot vote without an identification document, why does someone from abroad have this privilege? So raising a condition a month before this process is completed, when you previously agreed, this is a reason, an alibi to not recognize the elections, to justify the loss ," said Gjiknuri.
