Rama: It's painful to see people you've known for a long time facing

Prime Minister Edi Rama says that Albania is closer than ever to integration into the European Union, emphasizing that reform processes are moving at a rapid pace. During a meeting of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Socialist International, Rama said that for the first time since emerging from dictatorship, the country is seeing clear opportunities for EU membership.

"We are blessed to have been born in the heart of Europe, but at the same time we were cursed because we were disconnected from it for a long time. Today, for the first time, the stars have aligned properly and Albania has a real chance of becoming part of the European Union," said Rama.

He praised the justice reform, emphasizing that the Albanian state has moved the punishment process from the executive branch to an independent judiciary. Rama described this development as an important step towards establishing equality before the law.

"It is painful to see people you have known for a long time brought to justice, but this is a necessary process to strengthen the rule of law."

"Today, for the first time in the history of the Albanian state, powerful people, whether from the government or the opposition, are held accountable before justice," he said.

Another important aspect that the Prime Minister mentioned was the use of artificial intelligence in the process of approximating Albanian legislation with that of the EU, describing it as a successful model of cooperation with Mira Murati, the Albanian AI expert.

The meeting was attended by senior representatives of the Socialist International and sister European parties, with a focus on the PS2030 vision and Albania's integration into the EU.
