Socialist MP Erion Braçe, through a post on social networks, reacted strongly to the increase in food prices in Albania.
Brace, citing INSTAT, says that food prices increased by 2.38%; but compared to a year ago-2022, food prices increased by 6.7%.
According to him, Albania has an obvious problem with domestic production but also with the famous VAT, but which is hidden by informality.
"We eat very expensively, very expensively
INSTAT said yesterday that in December, food prices increased by 2.38%; but compared to a year ago-2022, food prices increased by 6.7%;
More expensive vegetables, more expensive fruits, more expensive dairy, more expensive meat and fish!
Food costs us more than anything else!
Why?
First, we have an obvious problem with domestic production, as a supply, as production-affected by climatic conditions and compromised yields, as a necessary cost; but also as an exception from the market due to fiscal stupidity, the famous VAT but which is hidden by informality;
All together make vegetables and fruits, dairy and meat expensive!
Second, we have a problem with #IMPORT, TRADERS, that is;
Two factors - the drop in prices in the international markets and the strong drop in the euro and the dollar, should have resulted in cheaper prices;
In fact, they have brought the same prices and bigger profits for the traders, the massive informality in the trade chain hides the big money.
So it is happening that imported foods are being sold more expensively than abroad, but cheaper than domestic production - because the quality is on the verge of expiration, plunging the domestic production into uselessness, unsold stocks, especially in dairy products!
Praaaaaaa, the miserable markets, concentrated in a few hands-dominated by imports, are killing local production; they are keeping the food of every Albanian, especially the elderly, expensive", writes the socialist deputy.
