The two socialist MPs Erion Braçe and Fatmir Xhafaj have spoken out against the increase in the salaries of the judges of the "Kushtetuesa".
During his speech in the Assembly, deputy Fatmir Xhafaj describes as absurd the additional salary for judges of the Constitutional Court provided for in the draft law.
He states that the arguments are not convincing and make this decision-making vulnerable.
"Financial support for the justice system, including the significant increase in salaries, was one of the declared goals of the Justice Reform and undoubtedly one of the achievements of the Reform. This majority, this government has made an epochal revolution in this aspect. Today, the salaries of judges and prosecutors are significantly incomparable with years before the Reform, comparable at the regional level and normally still far from the European average. All from the taxes of the citizens of this country. They have accepted that part of their taxes be used for the people of justice in the hope that this will serve independence, accountability, efficiency and quality in the delivery of justice.
If you ask me, I think it was worth it and from today's point of view, I think that what we did with the Reform for budget support, including high salaries for the system as a whole and SPAK in particular, was not an aberration at all.
The results proven by the Special Prosecutor's Office, the decisions given by the Special Court, the work rites in the Supreme Court, etc. prove that we are on the right path, and moreover when you see the extraordinary figures of seizures of these last two years, which also from the point of view of financial values best justify this support.
Today we have a draft law that essentially increases the salaries of constitutional judges, whose salary with this bill, from 346 thousand 98 gross lek per month", said Xhafaj.
Even MP Erion Brace is against this bill, but rejects the opposition's language, which he calls blackmail.
"This kind of language, that we do not increase your salaries, that you have a decision to make, is direct blackmail, from the hall of the Assembly of Albania. As far as you know, I am also against this draft law, but I categorically refuse to use the language that you use", said Brace during his speech.
