Sara Mila quotes Rama: The judiciary should not engage in politics, it cannot
Sara Mila

Socialist Party MP Sara Mila says that Prime Minister Edi Rama has not changed his stance on Justice Reform.

She assessed that ten years constitutes a considerable period, but not sufficient to fully mature a reform that was initiated as a condition for integration into the European Union and as a mechanism to address impunity. According to her, during the implementation, issues related to the relationship between the judiciary, the executive and the legislature have come to light.

"10 years is not a short time, but it is not a long time either to mature a reform that began as a fundamental condition for EU membership, but also as a necessity to end impunity in Albania. But what has happened in these years, during the maturation, the justice system reflects some problems on the role of the judiciary, the executive and the legislature. The Prime Minister simply asks for clarification. The judiciary cannot make politics and decide what the executive has the power to do," Mila told A2 CNN.

Mila stressed that the Prime Minister seeks clarity in the division of powers and that the judiciary should not interfere in areas that belong to the executive. She added that the suspension of a serving minister should not occur without a final decision.

Asked if Rama has reflected differently after these years, the MP stated that he would undertake the same initiative even if he were to go back in time. According to her, the Justice Reform remains the most important institutional development in the country and the current discussion is related to clarifying the boundaries between powers, not to a change of position.

"If he were to go back 10 years, he would do exactly the same thing. The Justice Reform is the best thing that has happened to Albania, especially when it matures properly. There is no change in discourse, but rather a dot on the i's for very important moments of institutional division," Mila emphasized.
