Shabani disappointed by the coalition with Lapaj: I have returned empty-handed

Endri Shabani, the chairman of Nisma Thurje, stated that every time he has gone for a post-election agreement with Adriatik Lapaj, he has returned empty-handed.

"This is not a conflict over a mandate or a salary, it is a conflict over a principle. I think Mr. Lapaj should enter Parliament, but I cannot convince others to keep their word, while Mr. Lapaj does not keep it. Because it is up to him that we have two standards ," Shabani said on "Off the Record" on A2 CNN.

When asked if there had been previous conflicts with Lapaj, Shabani said that there had been small things, but that everything culminated in a fight over the mandate.

"It is a natural tension in a democratic community. We are individuals with our own identity and opinions, so there has been constant tension and the role of leaders is to smooth out the tensions and look ahead. The context in which Mr. Zeqir Kordhoni's behavior occurred was that we no longer had a vision for the coalition. I have returned empty-handed every time I have gone to negotiate a post-election agreement. There has been a lack of desire perhaps to continue the cooperation. I wanted to not personalize the coalition with one person, to establish a common staff and budget for the coalition, but I returned empty-handed and it has produced tension ," he said.

According to Shabani, this has created the feeling as if all the success that has been achieved through the work of an entire team has been personalized by a single person.

"Adriatiku has received more votes than the others, but it has not received enough votes. Any other candidate who would have received more votes would have entered Parliament, but not the leader of the coalition. If we do not keep our word, we serve the old politics because the old politics wants this, which means that even the young people do not keep their word. None of us has received enough votes for a mandate, this is a mandate that represents the entire coalition, it cannot be personalized. This is the mentality of the old parties, that "only this one can do it". For a mandate in Tirana, 13,500 votes are needed. In this race, we have won as a team. We must be different from the old political class", Shabani further declared.
