Prime Minister Edi Rama, during a meeting with mayors, demanded the dismissal of the deputy mayors in all 61 municipalities in the country, describing them as sleepy. He even said in his speech that the deputy mayors of the municipalities are being kept afloat by the mayors.
So after the directors and heads of administrative units, Rama has raised the bar a little higher by also demanding the removal of the deputy mayors of municipalities.
But it seems that Rama's ultimatum has been opposed by at least two mayors, Fisnik Qosja of Kavaja and Vangjel Tavo of Himara. The latter has said that his deputy mayors are young and he will test them, showing a kind of rebellion against the Prime Minister.
While Qosja said that he cannot dismiss the deputy mayors of the Municipality based on the political orders of the Prime Minister. Qosja, one of the few opposition representatives who managed to emerge victorious in the 2023 local elections, said that he does not intend to proceed from the political orders of Edi Rama, but will focus on the performance of the deputy mayors and any other official in the Municipality of Kavaja.
