The merger of the University of Korça, the SP deputy reacts strongly: I
SP MP, Eni Zake

The University of Korça "Fan Noli" will merge with Tirana and this situation has brought great reactions, while some political figures have come out against it.

In the midst of many controversies, the SP deputy for the Korçë region, Eni Zake, also reacted.

"Surprised by the secret decision-making, like those decisions of the "guerrilla units" during the war, for the "merger" or "merger" of the "Fan S. Noli" University into a single one with the University of Tirana, with the argument that the only solution and salvation for part of the academic staff", writes the deputy.

Dhimitër Bello, the rector of the Fan Noli University of Korça, in a press conference announced that the senate of this university only two days ago decided to merge the University of Korçë with that of Tirana.

According to him, this decision was voted 100% by the pedagogues of this senate.

Full reaction:

IN UNISON TODAY, TO EXIST TOMORROW
The Fall of Constantinople (1453) brings to mind the decisive, last moment of the Empire, that of the siege of Constantinople by the Ottoman Empire, where a gate of the city's defensive walls, known as Kerkoporta, it was left open by a Greek soldier named Trapezountius. This treachery allowed the Ottomans to breach the walls and eventually conquer the city, leading to the end of the Byzantine Empire.
These few prologue words are enough to understand that at any time there is someone who leaves the gates open...
Surprised by the secret decision-making, like those decisions of the "guerrilla units" in wartime, for the "merger" or "merger" of the "Fan S. Noli" University into a single one with the University of Tirana, with the argumentation as the only solution and salvation for part of the academic staff, which for some will be continuity in work as a personal advantage "premium bonus reward", so at such a moment I feel a moral obligation to express my opinion regarding the continuity of the University's existence of Korça, first as a former student of this University, as a lecturer and as a former Administrator of this University.
I feel an obligation to all those colleagues, lecturers and professors who have contributed since the first year of its operation in 1971 as the Higher Agricultural Institute and until today, that I also give my opinion and support for this institution of knowledge and science.
I also feel an obligation to all the administrative and support staff of this University, with whom I have worked for more than 4.5 years.
Since the "advantages" of the merger of the University of Korça with the University of Tirana have been made clear by the leaders of this university, I am focusing on the disadvantages that the merger or transformation into a "branch" of the University of Tirana will bring, as stated in the daily conversations in the university's auditoriums by its leaders, although there is no legal provision, in the Law on Higher Education, to leave it to everyone's judgment, the disadvantages of the decision-making of the current leaders of the University of Korça.
Loss of autonomy:
By giving up autonomy, the University of Korça would lose its ability to make decisions autonomously and shape its own academic policies. It would be subject to the decisions and regulations set by the University of Tirana, which may not necessarily match the specific needs and priorities of the Korça District.
The importance of focusing on the local level of the issue:
Universities often play a crucial role in addressing specific community needs and challenges at the local and regional level. By merging with a larger Institution, such as the University of Tirana, there is an eminent and permanent risk that the unique character and focus of the University of Korça, adapted to the needs of its region, will fade or disappear. This can result in the loss of specialized programs, research initiatives and resources that are specifically designed to benefit the community at the local level.
Reduced access and resources:
In a larger university system, resources are often distributed across campuses, or departments. As a result, there is a possibility that the University of Korça will have reduced access to funding, research grants and other resources that are essential for the academic and scientific advancement of the institution and academic staff. This can affect the quality of higher education at the University level, in reduced / minimal opportunities related to the field of research, but also the general and comprehensive development of the institution.
Identity and recognition:
The University of Korça has built a unique identity and reputation over the years, which can fade, fade if it is absorbed or becomes a "finger in limb" in a central University like that of Tirana, the largest in the country in terms of the number of students and teachers.
The history, traditions and distinct achievements of the University of Korça can be obscured, overlooked, dissolved, lost within a larger institutional framework, where the University of Korça becomes a fragment that dissolves on the surface of a massif.
Economic impact at the local level:
Universities often contribute to the local economy by attracting students, faculty and staff, who in turn contribute to the community and local economy as residents of a particular local region.
If the University of Korça loses its autonomy, it could have a potential negative impact on the local economy, as students and faculty may choose to pursue education, or employment opportunities, elsewhere.
To limit the youth in elections, for a city or county, means to prevent development, to stop investments, to shake the consolidation of the tourism sector, the development of local businesses, etc.
Loss / Removal of Local Academic Expertise:
The University of Korça has a dedicated body of professors, researchers who have developed their research and academic activity to meet the needs of the economy at the local level. This academic body being attached to the University of Tirana, this source of academic expertise at the local level, being merged into a massive institution, can be ignored at worst, but certainly will not be used fruitfully in the wake of a merger of institutions.
As a result, what the pedagogues of Korça carry as knowledge, knowledge or expertise, may lose its current importance, hindering the development of educational programs and scientific research initiatives, specifically adapted and important for the development of the region.
Limited opportunities for students locally:
Maintaining an autonomous university in Korça allows students from the region to access higher education without moving to a larger city like Tirana. By joining the University of Tirana, students may face additional challenges such as; rising costs of living, limited accommodation options and limited access to resources for education.
Disruption of Institutional History and Tradition:
The University of Korça has built a rich history and tradition of education over the years. The annexation / merger with the University of Tirana can reduce or completely erase this historical identity of this educational institution, depriving the generations that come for education in the city that founded the Albanian language, that consolidated education at its highest levels.
Integrity of Lecturers and alumni:
The number of lecturers after the merger with UT will decrease, because now someone else will make the decisions.
The determination of the branches or programs that UK will have will not respond to the wishes and needs of students for the branches they need and want, as they will be determined by the Senate and the Board of UT depending on the priorities and development policies of this University.
How will an alumnus of this university feel when they ask him: Where did you graduate from the University? And he/she will answer: Here, at that University that is closed.
What about you professor, where did you work? Here is this university that has been closed.
STOP!
This should never happen!
I, as a staff member of that university once, but now as a deputy of the Korçë District, I think that I have done everything I could for the revitalization and consolidation of this institution of higher education, I have always helped whenever I was asked that this crater of knowledge get light and extend beyond the borders of the country.
But this time, not only was I not asked for help, but my opinion and that of every Korça member who has contributions to the University of Korça was not taken into consideration.
The disregard of the majority is the haste of the minority, which seems unable to reform a University apart from the demands of the time.
With the "famous proposal" of merging into two (2) faculties, out of the four (4) currently in the UK, the costs of education for students will be burdened, as many of them will not have the opportunity to diversify their preferences for education. high school in Korça, but they will have to go to other universities. Not to mention the administrative and support staff who will soon face unemployment (they will come out in the big way with the decisions of the leaders who are in a hurry), despite the fact that this staff has been contributing to this University for years, even decades.
Losing autonomy and being dependent on Tirana, this University cannot build projects or make bilateral, multilateral agreements, contracts, cooperation / partnership, development platforms with regional universities, participation in the absorption of EU programs and funds, because the decision will be someone else's.
These are some of the disadvantages, these are the traumas or the screaming consequences for Korça and the Korçars that will be caused by the desire of some, which is related to the decision to "give up" the automotive industry and to join the University of Tirana as the little finger of one of the limbs.
It is important to note that the specific implications would depend on the context, the terms of the merger and the subsequent actions taken by the parties involved.
IS THERE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS
Colleagues, citizens, friends, such decisions belong to everyone and not just a group of people, who have caused quite a few wounds over the years. Ambitions or personal plans can never exceed community, local and regional interests. The parachute to the rescue of some will never become the BRANCH University they project.
Dear professors, the future of the University is in everyone's hands, but under your VERDICT.
Korcars are wise and in the end they are the ones who decide and never the "paratroopers" of the subsidiary.
Today the leaders of UK are giving an exam and the citizens are evaluating them with a failing grade. They will give the exam again in the fall. We are here, all present, to make UK leaders take the Defense exam of the University of Korça this season, because there is no more time to lose.
