Albania the highest prices in the EU for food products, Tabaku reveals the three

The deputy of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, has shown the main reasons why the prices of food products in Albania are more expensive compared to the countries of the European Union.

According to Tabaku, the three main factors that affect this daily problem for citizens are: high socialist taxes, monopolies in the sales and distribution markets, as well as the decrease in citizens' incomes.

"Albanians are facing a heavy burden from the high taxes that the socialist government has imposed, including the high excise duty on fuel and VAT that increases the cost of living for every family," said Tabaku.

She pointed out that monopolistic structures in the markets of sales and distribution of products are captured by a small group of companies, making it impossible for small businesses to compete and reducing options for consumers.

The PD MP also emphasized that the disposable income of Albanians is constantly decreasing.

"When incomes fall and purchasing power decreases, citizens buy less and this is hurting the economy. The socialist government must change its course and think about the welfare of the people", says Tabaku.

"There are three simple and clear reasons why Albanians pay 40% more for products compared to European Union countries, mainly for food products. The first reason is socialist taxation, which imposes a high tax that includes excise duty on fuel, VAT and support for basket products. The second reason is related to captive markets, which are controlled by a small number of companies.

This fact makes it impossible for small operators and small businesses to enter and compete in the market. The third reason is disposable income, which is falling more and more, reducing the purchasing power of consumers.

Although official inflation figures may be low, the reality in people's pockets is completely different. This is the reality that we have to change: sales of products at high prices due to captured markets, lack of competition and market capture", writes Tabaku on social networks.
