The chairman of the "Albania Becomes" movement, Adriatik Lapaj, has stated that the political force he leads has proposed that Albania adopt an electoral model similar to that of Kosovo, with a single electoral zone throughout the country.

Invited to the "Terminal" show on A2CNN, Lapaj said that the draft presented by his movement aims to equalize the vote and create more space for new parties and candidates outside of traditional political structures.

" The proposal we have made is practically the Kosovo model. We have proposed that Albania be a single electoral zone, from Kukës to Saranda, where all the votes are collected together. This brings real equality of votes and avoids situations where citizens are told that votes for new parties go to waste. The Kukës MP approves laws that are also valid in Saranda, so there is no need for the system to treat votes differently according to districts. This model would create more space for real political competition ," Lapaj declared.

According to him, the proposal has been submitted to the electoral reform table and, referring to public statements, has been accepted in principle by the Democratic Party.

Lapaj also emphasized that "Albania Becomes" demands open lists and the preservation of the current number of deputies in Parliament, opposing the idea of reducing them.

" We have requested open lists because Parliament should produce real representation and not deputies appointed by mayors. Intellectuals and professionals should have the opportunity to enter politics through civic support and not through party bargaining. We have also proposed that Parliament remain with 140 deputies. The idea of reducing the number of deputies brings greater centralization of power and makes Parliament more accessible to interest groups. The fewer deputies there are, the easier political control over them becomes ," said the head of "Albania Is Being Made."

According to Lapaj, changes to the electoral system are necessary to create fairer political representation and to reduce the control of major parties over the electoral process and Parliament.
