In his testimony before the Sterilization Commission, businessman Ilir Rrapaj also answered the question of whether he knew Edi Rama before.
The businessman Ilir Rrapaj, who has testified in the Sterilization and Check Up Investigative Commission, was asked about his acquaintance with the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, former Deputy Minister Klodian Rrjepaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Rrapaj has denied knowing former minister Beqaj, saying that he only knew him as a public figure and met him for the first time at an activity held by the Albanian government at the Palace of Congresses
Excerpt from the testimony:
Question: Do you know Ilir Beqaj?
Rrapaj: I knew who he was as a public figure!
Q: You didn't have friends?
Rrapaj: No, not before, not long, not later.
Q: Do you only know him from afar?
Rrapaj: Definitely!
Q: When did you first meet him?
Rrapaj: Yes, in the same activity called by the Albanian government, a greeting. There I had the opportunity to first get to know them who they are.
Q: You didn't talk?
Rrapaj: There were over 400 participants and each was offered a welcome greeting at the table, nothing more.
Question: When he had an accident in Italy, weren't you the one who helped him heal?
Rrapaj: No ma'am, I'm sorry I wasn't there.
Question: Beqaj accepted it himself and went to one of the hospitals in Bari.
Rrapaj: It is 850 km away from where I live, I don't even know it and have ever known it. I wish I didn't meet people through hospitals.
Question: Do you know about a house, a villa that Ilir Beqaj bought in Italy, after the start of the Stelizzim concession?
Rapaj: No!
Albana Vokshi: Do you know Klodian Rrjepaj?
Ilir Rrapaj: I will divide it into two phases. Until August 2024, 1 year ago I knew what it was and who it was.
At the time of the arrest, I knew who he was.
I have been sharing the same residence for 15 months, now I can even say that I know him.
Albana Vokshi: You didn't know Klodian Rrjepaj before? were you friends
Ilir Rrapaj: The word friend has a special definition. Being a friend is a rare thing.
I unfortunately believe that this is the most abused term. I didn't have any kind of friendship or acquaintance, on the contrary. Labeled as having a deep acquaintance with this person, my journey is totally different and far, far removed from the journey of the gentleman in question
Albana Vokshi: You don't know him closely?
Ilir Rrapaj: No
Albana Vokshi: Despite being in the same school, the same city and the same generation, they don't know each other
Ilir Rrapaj: I confirm that I do not know him, I did not know him at that time. We came from different schools, from the same city, but it doesn't mean that we knew each other, from different years, if I'm not mistaken, the gentleman is a year older, as we were in different faculties and I met him after 20 years
Albana Vokshi: When did you meet him for the first time?
Ilir Rrapaj: Officially in an activity organized by the government. Up close and we exchanged credentials in a public event organized by the Albanian government at the Palace of Congresses
Albana Vokshi: In which year?
Ilir Rrapaj: 2013-2014, right after the elections, was the moment when I met him through people.
Albana Vokshi: What did you talk about?
Ilir Rrapaj: I spoke starting with compliments that I gave to the gentleman about his career, sometimes thoughtless from my point of view, that's all. I told him 'career compliments'
Albana Vokshi: Did you talk about the concession?
Ilir Rrapaj: Absolutely not
Ilir Rrapaj: How did you find out about the concession
Ilir Rrapaj: Through one of the partners who, in cooperation with other partners, were trying to participate in the competition
Ilir Rrapaj: E-mail 'fra', you didn't have this code? The e-mails came after this chance meeting
Ilir Rrapaj: I am originally from Vlora. Vlla takes tones from the most serious threat, to a routine liquidation of a text where the conversation follows.
In his testimony before the Sterilization Commission, businessman Ilir Rrapaj also answered the question of whether he knew Edi Rama before. Rrapaj said that he met him at a government event in 2013 where he also met former minister Ilir Beqaj and former deputy minister Klodjan Rjepaj at the same meeting.
Vokshi: Did you know Edi Rama?
Rrapaj: I know him like most Albanians through political activity.
Vokshi: How did you know him?
Rrapaj: In the same activity, the Prime Minister presided. This is the first moment.
Vokshi: You didn't have any other acquaintances? Did you have a meeting after that?
Rrapaj: On one or two other occasions part of the Umbrian delegation.
Vokshi: Did you meet Ilir Beqaj later?
Rrapaj: Only in official premises. I did not talk with the prime minister, I was simply present with the delegation.
