Today, the "Babale" case is being examined at the Court of Appeal, where MP Ervin Salianji has appeared in the courtroom to follow the process.
Salianji opposes the sentence of 1 year in prison, given by the Court of Tirana in December 2019 for the charge of "false report".
In his speech, Salianji said that he has never filed a report in relation to this matter and does not understand the offense of public reporting for which he is accused.
"We have considered the denunciation for a long time. It was done on May 14, 2018," Salianji was quoted as saying.
The democratic deputy said that he condemned the sentence in Italy of the brother of the Minister of the Interior and has no connection with Albert Veliu.
"For three days in a row there has been silence from the Minister of the Interior (Fatmir Xhafaj), from the prosecutors. Although he has been free for 8 years, the gentleman (Geron Xhafaj) under the influence of his brother and friends goes and surrenders. He goes to Rome with his hands in his pockets to serve his sentence. They take it on purpose, so that it does not deposit its own original voice. Xhafaj's voice was given to the prosecution via USB by his lawyer. There is no proof of any kind, nor any kind of fact."
Further in his speech in court, the deputy brought out Fredi Alizot's interceptions with the director of the Police and said that he also had conversations with the head of the SP group

Salianji was convicted in the First Degree for "false report", a charge that he does not accept.
In the Appeal of the General Jurisdiction, Salianji opposes the sentence of 1 year in prison, given by the Court of Tirana in December 2019 for the charge of "false report".
Although he was sentenced to prison, he did not go to jail, as he was investigated and tried without security measures. The decision of the First Instance for 100 hours of work in the public interest has also been appealed by the co-defendant in this case, journalist Jetmir Olldashi.
