The meeting between the Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, and his Greek counterpart, Ionais Ikonomou, scheduled to take place today, has been cancelled.
The reason for the cancellation of the meeting was the violent incidents, yesterday evening, in Athens between the fans of AEK and Dinamo Zagreb.
As a result of the clashes last evening, 1 young man lost his life, while 8 others were injured, while 96 people were arrested.
Balla had earlier announced the meeting with Ikonomou, with whom he would discuss border security and ease of movement during the tourist season.
Terrible scenes of violence took over Athens on Monday evening at the AEK stadium. Dinamo Zagreb hooligans attacked AEK fans. As a result, a 29-year-old Greek man lost his life. He was stabbed to death.
The police have arrested 98 people in connection with this event. Among them are 87 Croats, one Albanian, one Austrian, one Bosnian, one German and five Greeks.
Eight people were also injured in the incident. Among them, a 17-year-old who has severe blows to the head after being hit with stones. There are also 3 Greeks and 5 Croats hospitalized in the hospital.
The scenes of violence happened before the AEK-Dinamo Zagreb match that is expected to be played this Tuesday and is valid for the Champions League qualifiers.
