The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during the parliamentary group meeting, called for the immediate change of the fuel taxation system in Albania, describing it as unfair and penalizing for citizens.
During his speech, Berisha initially focused on international developments, welcoming the ceasefire agreement in the Middle East.
"I express my and our appreciation for the ceasefire achieved... Let us hope that this ceasefire turns into a lasting peace agreement," he said.
According to him, the crisis in the Persian Gulf has directly affected the increase in oil prices in the country. He emphasized that even after the ceasefire, the consequences will continue due to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
"The situation or the consequences created... require weeks and months to normalize," Berisha declared.
Berisha attacked the current fiscal system for fuel, describing it as excessive and harmful to the household economy.
"Our parliamentary group demands at all costs the overthrow of the current fiscal system on the liter of oil... an absolutely punitive system against the Albanian citizen ," he said.
Berisha added that the level of taxation, which according to him amounts to around 1.1 euros per liter, is among the highest and has a chain effect on price increases.
According to the leader of the DP, this fiscal policy affects the needy most.
"It penalizes those who don't have cars more... farmers, pensioners, the entire population with price increases ," he said, highlighting the impact on transportation, food, and the cost of living in general.
