Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has called the imposition of a new tax for free professions, which came into effect on January 1 of this year, an "eviction tax".
Through a post on Facebook, Berisha says that the imposition of this tax is a mechanism to expel many categories of people from Albania.
He called on the people not to leave, but to join civil disobedience by not paying this tax.
" Genocide through deportation taxes! Dear friends, this new year started with a heavy blow for 29 thousand Albanians who practice free professions.
From January 1, 2024, the DELETION TAX from Albania has been imposed on this layer, vital for the country's economy. The philosophy of the Democratic Party, like any right-wing party, is that less tax is better. It is proven that the money in the citizen's pocket is better managed and is more useful than in the state coffers.
This is proven in the government of the Democratic Party, where, thanks to the flat tax, Albanians had more purchasing power than today, despite the fact that 10 years have passed. It is also proven in many western countries that have followed a right-wing taxation system and has resulted in increased productivity and prosperity for the country.
Anyway, what is happening in Albania is not a left-wing taxation system, and my criticism is not ideological in nature. The problem in Albania is not the tax itself. But the PURPOSE of the tax. Is it a fair tax? Does it boost productivity? If we visit history, we will see numerous cases where taxes have been used as instruments to oppress people.
Taxes have been used to steal from a population, as in France before the Revolution. Taxes were used as coercion to convert people's beliefs. And finally, the free professions tax in Albania, as a mechanism to DRIVE out of Albania, that layer that includes tour operators, veterinarians, teachers, doctors, real estate agents, electricians, plumbers, etc.
Taxing them at 15% and 23% is de facto a DEPORTATION TAX, since anyone who knows a professional from these fields knows that the income of most of them is at the limit of survival. This tax is a DELETION TAX, when the other facts of their reality are put into the equation:
- No support or incentives from the state for these professions. – The highest prices in the region for basic food and accommodation.
- The reality that 81% of Albanians want to leave the country, where the free professions are the segments most interested in leaving. So the taxation of free professions with 15% and 23% in these circumstances, is not a simple taxation, but an incentive for their departure from Albania and the emptying of Albania of professionals.
This taxation is just the next instrument in a well-thought-out system that aims at genocide against Albanians, removing them from their lands. In the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide of the United Nations Organization, on the first page it is written that there are 5 acts that are called GENOCIDE.
Act number 3 says: "Genocide is called when living conditions are deliberately imposed on a group calculated to bring about the partial or complete destruction of a people." Having said that, the taxation of free professions is only the newest condition calculated to accelerate the departure of Albanians. The calculated condition is also the destruction of free elections. Aggression against the opposition is also a calculated condition. Where the theft of the logo of the Democratic Party is included. And the imprisonment of the opposition leader.
The calculated condition is also the destruction of parliamentarism. Where opposition MPs are denied EVERY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT.
That's why I call you freelancers. To stand for Albania. Don't give up by choosing to leave, as intended. But join in civil disobedience by REFUSING to pay this tax.
TODAY OR EVER! For democracy. For pluralism. For the salvation of Albania ", writes Berisha.
