Transport of toxic waste to Thailand, DP requests urgent interpellation with

The DP Parliamentary Group, through the Chairman of the Gazment Bardhi Group, has requested an urgent interpellation with Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding the facts made public about the transportation of hazardous waste to China and Thailand, which according to the DP is illegal.

The request states that the repeated cases of export of toxic waste raise serious doubts that Albania is involved in an illegal international trade in hazardous waste.

This shows, according to Bardhi, that we are not dealing with an isolated event, but with a real criminal activity, which includes responsibility for illegal actions or inactions of some state authorities under the jurisdiction of the Council of Ministers, as well as a lack of criminal negligence of the supervision of the illegal activity of some private commercial entities, identified so far the companies "Kurum International" sh.a. and "Sokolaj" sh.pk.

"For this reason, only for the two identified loads, it results that a minimum amount of about 1600 tons of toxic, untreated and unprocessed waste will be returned to Albania, which risks threatening the lives and health of citizens and, without a doubt, national security. " - it is stated in the request submitted by the DP parliamentary group.

Also, in the request it is emphasized that from the data so far there is a reasonable suspicion that the public interest has been violated, because:

"It is necessary immediately and without any delay that the Albanian Government informs the Parliament of Albania, and through it the public opinion, what it is about, to whom the hazardous waste belongs, how it was created or arrived in Albania, how it was treated, what actions , controls or supervisory acts have been undertaken by the institutions, how they were allowed to be exported without the relevant permits from the Port of Durres, who allowed them to enter and leave the territory of the Republic of Albania, from and through the Port of Durres, etc. In this case, the lack of transparency on the part of the Government adds even more uncertainty to the lives of Albanian citizens and, above all, suspicions of a criminal activity with state permission, which endangers the national security of a NATO member country." - the request for an urgent interpellation with the Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group Gazment Bardhi is closed.
