Peleshi asked the deputies to establish a new standard in the Assembly, strictly implementing the Constitution and the Code of Ethics.
Niko Peleshi spoke as Speaker of Parliament immediately after being elected with 84 votes in favor.
In his speech, Peleshi stated that the objective of Albania's membership in the EU will guide parliamentary diplomacy.
Albania's new Speaker of Parliament pledged to create the necessary space for each MP to speak and to give due importance to all legislators.
He asked the deputies to establish a new standard in the Assembly, strictly implementing the Constitution and the Code of Ethics.
" A historic moment for Albania, so I feel doubly appreciated and deeply grateful and I commit to turning this trust into an impetus to work with dedication every day. I would like to thank Elisa Spiropali for her valuable contribution during the last year of the last legislature. I thank all the deputies, regardless of the vote for or against or non-participation in the vote and I will do everything I can to create the necessary space for speech in parliament, the new dignified status of the deputy and the assembly, the appropriate infrastructure to facilitate the work of the deputy.
I would like to set a new standard of respect for the Constitution, the regulations and the Code of Ethics. We are fellow travelers and contributors to the final and long-awaited segment of Albania's journey towards the European Union.
The strategic objective of concluding negotiations in 2027 and EU membership by 2030 will guide our parliamentary diplomacy in the years to come. This is a commitment that requires continuous work.
Hate speech, verbal violence become obstacles to building a new European mindset. On the contrary, they model a cooperative society. Relations with the EP will be further deepened, while we will deepen communication with the parliaments of the 27 member states. It is our duty to keep the cooperation with the Kosovo Assembly alive and to work for the rights of Albanians everywhere in the region.
"We will exercise control over the Executive by demanding an account ," said Peleshi.
While Peleshi was speaking, opposition MPs couldn't stop the noise as they banged their tables.
