Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has stated that the reception and accommodation camps for immigrants in Shengjin e Gjadër will be opened from August 1.
Meloni sent a message to the critics stating that "we will do it successfully". Prime Minister Meloni emphasized that the two months of delay came because of the difficult terrain in Gjadër.
"We took into account some criteria and conditions, illegal immigration is a disturbing phenomenon that EU countries cannot cope with alone, we need the help of countries outside the EU. We only have to strengthen this cooperation. Through this agreement, Albania has established some territories where Italy is carrying out the works for the establishment of two centers.
First in Shengjin, where they will be waited on, and in Gjadër, where they will be sheltered. Immigrants who have been saved, of course, pregnant women and people of a certain age will not come to Albania, there will be a structure where all border crossing procedures will be carried out, we will have acceleration of procedures when they are from countries of safe.
They will be operational from August 1, 2024. We will do it successfully. The two-month delay was caused by the somewhat difficult terrain in Gjadër," said Meloni.
