DHL, the international company that was contracted by the CEC for postal votes in the May 11 elections, seems to have lost patience with the State Election Commissioner, Ilirjan Celibashi. It all has to do with the settlement of the obligations that the CEC has towards DHL, while the company claims the amount of 8.6 million euros.
The company distributed the ballots and transported them from the locations where they were collected inside and outside Europe, to Tirana, where they were counted.
The postal service company, which claims that it has not received any payment, through a request addressed to the CEC, demands that the obligation of 8.6 million euros be repaid within September. Otherwise, it warns that the CEC must also pay the postal company interest on the late payment, in the amount of 260 thousand euros.
The diaspora vote caused a lot of controversy and raised suspicions about massive manipulation, especially after Edi Rama's socialists deepened the result after opening the boxes containing the votes of Albanians living and working abroad. The opposition raised strong suspicions and accusations about manipulation, non-delivery of envelopes, filling them out by patrons, etc. Meanwhile, the CEC has started the verification process regarding the implementation of the contract, i.e. whether or not the postal company has fulfilled its obligations, from the distribution of envelopes with ballots to their collection and subsequent transfer to Albania, respecting all the steps.
