Ilir Alimehmeti, who in the May 11 elections resulted among the two most voted names on the DP list for MP in the Tirana District, but was unable to obtain the mandate, spoke to Klan News regarding developments within the largest opposition force and the challenges that have accompanied the recent processes.
He emphasized that the electoral reform, previously discussed, has not favored free voting and direct representation of citizens, making it a criticized process within the party.
Another challenge, according to him, has been the appointment of district coordinators, where contribution and productivity are seen as key elements to guarantee representation and efficiency in elections.
"Since a year ago, over a year, we have discussed that the electoral reform was not in favor of free voting and was not in favor of direct representation of the people, which was done in a bilateral manner. Then we discussed how the coordinators of each district were established, the contribution is important everywhere, but we also said that productivity is important, so representation and productivity because in the end it all comes down to some elections where votes are counted, so there is a productivity that is the counting of votes. We said that last September," he said.
Alimehmeti, who is also a member of the DP National Council, added that the primaries process must be followed carefully, as mistakes can create consequences, whether small or large, while there are always dissatisfied individuals. He did not leave out the problems with allied forces, related to their number, representation and place within the party.
"The primaries process should have been followed more precisely, we have said that if they are done well they are an added value, but if they are not done properly it will create consequences and absolutely it did, small, big. There are always dissatisfied people. I don't want to give color to this, but there were definitely problems. We had another problem, perhaps with the allied forces, with their number, with their representation, with their location," said Alimehmeti.
