The rush that involved the main institutions of the state to announce partial elections for the Municipality of Himara, immediately after the CEC ended the mandate of Fredi Beler, was accompanied by legal interpretations and even accusations of unconstitutionality.
But the date August 4 has been decreed by President Bajram Begaj, while it is expected that the CEC will set the official launch of the campaign and the deadlines for the registration of candidates. Although Beleri has stated that he will follow the steps of appeal, it seems that everything is ready from both camps since the Court of Appeal sentenced him to prison in a final decision.
Both the majority and the opposition have mentioned the most likely names that will face each other in the battle on August 4. Edi Rama gave the signals from Himara to the prefect of Vlora, Vangjel Tavo.
"You want Vangjel for work, there you have it, you want Vangjel for trouble, expect a Vangjel with heavy eyebrows that will bring them trouble", Rama said a while ago.
Even the opposition camp seems to have been prepared for the worst scenario, since Alfred Beleri's son has been on the political scene for weeks. Petro Beleri himself has admitted to the Greek media that he may be a candidate for mayor, but even the opposition officials do not deny his name as the "war horse" in Himara. Vangjel Dule was the last voice that did not deny the candidacy of Petro Beleri.
"I tell you for sure, that any of the citizens of Himara who will choose PBDNJ and the opposition coalition to run will be a winner, both for each candidate and for Mr. Rama himself. Why? Because we have two clear goals, the robbery of property and the protection of property", said Dule.
For 14 months, Himara has been governed by a commanding president, since Alfred Beleri, who managed to win the elections on May 14 last year, could not take the oath after being arrested and sentenced to two years in prison for election corruption.
The acting mayor, the socialist Jorgo Goro, also ended up in prison. But the municipality was still not calm. It is now led by Arqile Bollano, after the resignation of the vice-president Blerina Bala.
Beler's legal saga came to an end on Friday after the CEC found his mandate invalid. while the Greek authorities call for him to be allowed to take the oath as a member of the European Parliament. /A2 CNN
