In a surprise visit to the Fier Prosecutor's Office, the EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, made a significant statement regarding the importance of the electoral process and the role of Albanian institutions.
He emphasized that he is not in the country for formal election observation, but to closely follow the progress and cooperation between state structures, especially on a key day after the opening of negotiations with the EU.
" This is an important day for Albanian citizens, especially after the opening of negotiations. I am not conducting election observation today. I am watching how the elections are going. Today's elections are very important. ODIHR is observing the elections and they will then provide their findings and recommendations. I have just arrived in the Fier region. I wanted to meet with SPAK, to see the work they are doing. I am observing how the cooperation between institutions for the smooth conduct of the elections in Albania is going. The institutional cooperation agreement is going well. The incidents will be investigated by the country's institutions. I came to Fier, so that we would not be left in Tirana. I was in Durrës, because there was information about gangs, we also had information about gangs in Fier and I came here ," he said.
