After the postponement of the meeting of the Electoral Reform Commission, the deputy of Sali Berisha's group, Oerd Bylykbashi, issued a statement to the media where he said that the SP does not seek a consensual reform.
In his speech he said that it is important to take and address the core concerns and not to create false majorities in the parliament.
Bylykbashi emphasized that they are asking for the same thing that Edi Rama asked for when he was in the opposition, which the majority gave him.
"Today was again proof that the SP does not seek consensual electoral reform with a supra-partisan commission that operates on a consensual basis. We demand a commission composed of half the majority and half the opposition, each side including all political factors and parties within it. Albania does not need unilateral politics. It is important to pick up and address the core concerns and not create false majorities in parliament.
Rama has declared that he will demand a numerical majority, while we demand what Rama demanded when he was in the opposition, which was guaranteed by the majority. It was that mechanism that guaranteed an improvement in the elections that made it possible to have a rotation in 2013. What he achieved, he asked not to allow the opposition. There is no population here, Edi Rama has the highest numbers. This is the standard of the elections that he is looking for, and this is the standard of the elections that we want to undo," he said.
