General Hisen Berisha, deputy of PDK, has explained why Kosovo bought Bayraktar drones from Turkey.
"The purchase of drones was planned months ago, after analyzing the threats and dangers that the country may face. The war in Ukraine has shown their efficiency. It is a necessity of the time, there is no legal restriction, no matter what Vucic says. We will also buy more advanced technology, not only drones but also weapons systems", said Berisha on A2 CNN.
"Serbia has bought missile systems from Russia and it is a Russian satellite based on the border with Kosovo. We will also buy all the equipment that can respond to Serbia. Our actions are harmonized with the US, and in terms of security, the powers are the responsibility of the NATO forces", added Berisha.
According to him, "Serbia should know that it will no longer face a KLA with Kalashnikovs, but a Kosovo with weapons to fight the war at a distance and if it wants war, it will be fought in Serbia. And not an unjust war, but a just war".
The Kosovo army has been reinforced with Bayraktar TB-2 drones purchased from Turkey, which are already part of the KSF arsenal.
Prime Minister Kurti added that together with the Commander of the KSF, General Bashkim Jashari and the Minister of Defense Armend Mehaj, they congratulated the officers who completed the training on the use of drones.
The Bayraktar TB2 is a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned combat aerial vehicle capable of remotely controlled or autonomous flight operations.
The drone has a length of 6.5 meters, while the wingspan reaches 12 meters. It made its first flight in 2014, while its high combat efficiency was confirmed. It is estimated that the price for a Bayraktar TB2 drone will go up to 5 million dollars.
While the government of Kosovo has not announced any figure for their purchase. Less than 500 Bayraktar drones have been created so far, while the Albanian army has also purchased the powerful weapon from Turkey.
Serbia had also placed an order for the purchase of some drones, but President Aleksandër Vucic announced the cancellation of the contract with Ankara, as a sign of protest for the weapons supplied to the Kosovo Security Force.
