Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has begun his official visit to the United States of America, as he held a meeting with American congressman from the Republican Party, Keith Self.
The meeting took place at the Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in New York, within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Congressman Self, a declared supporter of Kosovo, and Prime Minister Kurti discussed bilateral relations between Kosovo and the US, with a particular focus on cooperation in the field of defense and security, as well as the important role of the Albanian diaspora in strengthening ties between the two countries.
Kurti informed the congressman about the investments made in increasing the capacities of the Kosovo Security Force, including equipment and weaponry provided by the US as part of strategic defense cooperation.
He also mentioned the government's recent decisions, such as the temporary admission and resettlement of third-country nationals from the US, the removal of customs duties on products of American origin, and the continuation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation's "Compact" program for Kosovo - all of which, according to Kurti, are evidence of the strong partnership with the United States.
Another important point of discussion was the importance of American investments in Kosovo's private sector, where the role of the diaspora in facilitating and encouraging foreign direct investment was emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti invited Congressman Self for a visit to Kosovo and thanked him for his continued support for Kosovo, including his pro-membership stance in NATO and other Euro-Atlantic organizations.
He also expressed his willingness to further deepen cooperation with the US Congress and the administration in Washington in promoting common values and interests.
