According to the social democratic politician, the military mobilization of Serbian forces on the northern border of Kosovo and the declaration of the president of "Republika Srpska", Milorad Dodik, about secession, are clear attacks on liberal democratic Europe. These actions aim to push the boundaries and thus cause further conflicts in Europe.
German MP Adis Ahmetovic and Chairman of the Subcommittee for International Climate and Energy Policy, has expressed his concern about the increase in destabilization in Europe. In a press statement, Ahmetovic emphasized that the dangerous game of autocratic forces in the Western Balkans is bringing a new dimension to this general crisis.
Ahmetovic stated that it is evident that there are close links between the Russian aggression in Ukraine and the conflicts in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but not everyone in the EU Commission is aware of this. He is of the opinion that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has used the situation to create uncertainty and tension in the Western Balkans region.
"With the war in Ukraine, Putin has overcome the first gate of attack in Eastern Europe. With this simultaneous attempt to revive new conflicts in the Western Balkans, as is currently happening in Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina, the West is facing a further test, which we must oppose with all determination. "
In this context, Ahmetovic calls for increased determination from the European Union. He points out that the second gateway to Eastern Europe is shaken by Russian aggression and conflicts in the Western Balkans. In this situation, it is important for the EU to engage more actively and protect freedom and security on the European continent.
Ahmetovic repeats the call to the Serbian side for immediate de-escalation in Kosovo and stopping the gathering of Serbian troops at the border. He adds that this will not only preserve the stability of the region, but also ensure Serbia's credibility on its path to possible membership in the European Union.
At this difficult time, Ahmetovic calls for immediate action by Germany, the European Union states and NATO to prevent the worsening of the situation and to maintain peace and security in Europe.
The conflict in Kosovo began to escalate on September 24 after an attack on the Kosovo police, as a result of which a Kosovar policeman lost his life./DW
