United States President Donald Trump said that Ukraine's recent attacks on Russian territory represent an escalation of the conflict, but according to him, they could create the conditions to end the war.
Speaking alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit, Trump said recent developments could affect the course of the conflict.
"It's an escalation, but it's also an escalation that could help end the situation," Trump said.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Ukraine has significantly increased its ability to strike targets deep inside Russian territory, making it more difficult for Moscow to defend its airspace.
"I think you're discussing Ukraine's ability to penetrate deep inside Russia to carry out attacks. That's one of the dynamics that has changed over the last few months, and the Russians are finding it harder to defend their airspace," Rubio said.
According to him, this development could create opportunities for negotiations. "And what we hope this means is that it will create the space now to negotiate an end to this war," Rubio added.
Trump also announced that the United States would authorize licensed production of Patriot missiles for Ukraine, signaling continued military support for Kiev.
"I will issue a license to produce Patriot missiles," the US president declared.
