Removing the dinar, Petkovic threatens Kosovo: We will request an urgent meeting

The director of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, said that the Serbian people in Kosovo "are in a very difficult situation" due to the decision of the Government of Kosovo to abolish the Serbian dinar.

He emphasizes that Serbia will request an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.

"The reasons why we are asking for an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council is that Albin Kurti is carrying out ethnic cleansing of the Serbian people in Kosovo and or as it is legally stated in the conventions, he is creating unbearable lives by deliberately subjecting the Serbs to conditions of such that they cannot survive in Kosovo", he said.

In a recent interview, Petkovic said that in the last year more than 14 percent of Serbs left Kosovo and now live in Serbia.

He said that the US for the first time since the beginning of the crisis reacted adequately and that the announcement of the American ambassador in Kosovo, Geoffrey Hovenier, was "encouraging" as he condemned the attack on Serbian institutions in Kosovo.

"Of course, America will not change its policy towards Kosovo, but in this case, when it comes to the cancellation of the dinar, which is creating a humanitarian disaster in Kosovo, we see another reaction ," Petkovic emphasized.

We remind you that the United States of America and the European Union have expressed concern over the actions of the Kosovo authorities after the closure of the facilities of "institutions administered by Serbia" in Dragash, Pejë, Istog and Klinë and the office of a non-governmental organization in Pristina.

The USA and the EU have once again called on the Government of Kosovo to reconsider the decision of the financial authorities on cash, which prohibits the use of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo.
