The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, will participate in an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council, called at the request of Serbia, where it is expected to discuss the latest developments in Kosovo tonight in the evening according to the local time in Kosovo .

The Prime Minister's Office announced on Thursday that Kurti traveled to the United States together with his Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz.

Meanwhile, the Serbian Presidency announced on Thursday that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, will speak at the session. Serbia made the request for this session after the decisions of the Kosovar authorities to ban the Serbian dinar and close the parallel Serbian municipalities in recent weeks.

In the submitted request, Serbia described as illegal the decision of Kosovo to ban the use of the Serbian dinar for cash payments, assessing that it is "the continuation of the measures of brutal physical and institutional violence against the Serbs", and according to Belgrade , the goal is "ethnic cleansing and extermination of the Serbian population".

On Monday, Serbia requested an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council for the decision to ban the use of the dinar by the Central Bank of Kosovo.

Twice a year, in April and October, the UN Security Council holds regular sessions on the situation in Kosovo, where the six-monthly reports of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the work of the UN Mission in Kosovo are discussed. Kosovo (UNMIK). The last such hearing was held on October 23, 2023.
